12th SYMPOSIUM ENERGY INNOVATION
15th - 17th February 2012
ALTERNATIVES FOR THE
ENERGY FUTURE IN EUROPE
MOTIVATION
The nuclear accident in Japan in march 2011, as a result of a tsunami caused by an earthquake, lead to new discussions concerning the future alternatives for Europe's energy supply. These discussions are furthermore incited by the German and Swiss resolutions for their respective nuclear phase out.

In the search for alternatives the consideration of the topics energy efficiency, renewable energy sources as well as the development and design of future energy-market mechanisms is of utmost importance.
Regarding the evolution of Europe's energy economy, the uncertainties about the security of supply (f.e. gas-supply-shortages occurring in the past years), future energy prices and also climate change where the main topics discussed.
AIMS OF THE SYMPOSIUM
The aftermath of the aforementioned accident calls for a rethinking of the current approaches to solve these problems and to adapt them to today's situation. Besides Europe's economic order (including regulations) these new approaches need to consider energy production (RES, innovative energy-technologies), energy distribution systems as well as demand orientated measures.
Science, economy as well as politics and the administration are therefore called upon to contribute to a beneficial development of Europe's energy economy and society. These contributions will be presented and discussed at the 12th Symposium Energy Innovation.
